MANKULAM HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT, (40 MW/82.8 Mu)

MANKULAM HEP

Background:

Mankulam Hydroelectric Project is located in Melachery river, a tributary of Periyar river.  The scheme involves 55.10 sq.km catchment area of Melachery river.  The scheme is proposed to construct a concrete gravity dam of 47.2m high across the Melachery river. The Mankulam scheme is proposed to develop in two stages. Stage – 1 consists of utilizing inflow of the free catchment 25.60 km² below Viripara diversion for generating 40 MW power and Stage – 2 involves diversion of adjacent rivers viz. Kadalar and Rajamalayar for another 40MW power generation in future.  Construction activities of the Mankulam HEP stage -1 has been started.

Project Approval:

KSEBL accorded Administrative Sanction on 16.11.2021 for Rs.600 Crores at DSR 2016 Price Level.

Contract for the Civil Work:

Civil work awarded to M/s. PES – KSR Joint Venture, Hyderabad and agreement executed on 16.05.2022.

Agreed PAC -   Rs. ₹ 250.22 Cr.

Actual date of commencement – 21.05.2022.

Official date of completion     -   14.05.2026

Progress achieved – 6.02%

Expected Completion of civil Work: 14.05.2026.
