with 1.5MW Grid Tied Floating Solar Plant at Pamba reservoir
In Kerala, electricity demand has been rapidly increasing and to meet the growing demand, tapping the renewable energy potential is the most viable option. As an innovative initiative, KSEB Ltd is planning to meet the energy requirement of hydroelectric pumping schemes by implementing Floating solar plants on adjoining reservoirs. As a pilot project, a 1.5 MWp grid-connected Floating Solar Photo Voltaic project is proposed in the Pamba Reservoir under Sabarigiri Hydro Electric Project, to meet the power demand of the pump house at Kochupamba.
The Pamba reservoir is formed by the Pamba dam constructed across the Pamba River. The Kochu Pamba pumping scheme has a weir constructed the downstream of Pamba dam. This scheme pumps up water back to the reservoir by using 4Nos 315 Hp Pumps. The pumping scheme works mostly during solar hours. Thus, the energy consumed from the grid can be offset by renewable energy. A proposal is under consideration to solarize the pumping scheme at Kochupamba by installing a 1.5MWp FSPV plant in the Pamba reservoir.
