Brief History

Kakkad Hydro Electric Project (2x25MW=50MW)

The Kakkad Hydro Electric Project has been evolved as a second stage development of the potential of Pampa river basin and is basically a tail race development of the Sabarigiri project. The project was officially dedicated to the nation on 14.10.1999 by the honourable Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri. E.K. Nayanar. The project area is situated in the Pathanamthitta District of Kerala and is accessible by road from the District Head quarters via Vadasserikara, Chittar. The power house site is at Seethathode, 37 km away from District head quarters. The scheme utilises the tail water of Sabangiri Power Station together with the inflow from the two tributaries of Kakkad river, viz. Moozhiyar and Veluthode over a gross head of 132.6 m for power generation. After generation tail race water is fed to kakkad river. This water is used by private power projects like Ullunkal (EDCL), Maniyar(CUMI), Karikkayam (Ayyappa HEP) and KSEBL's Ranni-Perinad Power Project. There are two 110 kV feeders to Pathanamthitta 110 kV substation.
