Synopsis
Vellathooval S.H.E.P, is a 3.6 MW (2 x1.8 MW) run-of-the-river power plant built near Panniar HEP in the Muthirapuzha river basin. Being a low head plant, it employs two horizontal axis S-Type Kaplan turbines. The main source of water for this project is the tail race discharge from Sengulam Hydro Electric Project and the water coming through Muthirapuzha river. This project is aimed at generating 12.17 Mu per year. After completing the electro mechanical work, Unit I is synchronized on 15 June 2016and Unit II on 17 June 2016. The project was dedicated to nation on 08-09-2016.This plant was severely affected by the 2018 floods. After the rehabilitation works, Unit#1 was synchronised to grid on 03-04-2021 and unit#2 on 18-06-2021.
