COVID-19

With the reporting of the first COVID-19 case in India on 30th January 2020 at Thrissur, Kerala, and the subsequent cases during March 2020, a Nationwide lockdown was imposed from 23rd March 2020 till 31st March 2020. The power sector has been declared an essential service under the lockdown. The primary impact on the power sector is due to the sharp fall in energy demand because of the lockdown. The secondary impact in the power sector due to the pandemic is the slowdown in the execution of various projects in the power sector and the implications thereof. All capital, and renovation modernization works were suspended due to the pandemic. Urgent works for restoring supply were only undertaken.  The total sale per day has nosedived to an average of 65 MU from the expected average sale of 85 MU during the peak summer.
