The Tsunami waves that hit on 26.12.2004 caused extensive damage to the power system of KSEBL, disrupting power supply in areas such as Arattupuzha, Alangad, Sakthikulangara, Neendakara, Karthikapally, Pattanakkad, Kadakkarappally, Chellanam, Elankunnappuzha and Njarakkal of Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam Districts.
A Project Implementation Unit (PIU-TEAP) was constituted to facilitate the implementation of the project with the Member (Distribution) as Chairman and Head, the Deputy Chief Engineers of Electrical Circles, Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam and the Deputy Chief Accounts Officer (O/o the Financial Advisor) as the members. The Executive Engineer (Projects) is the Convener. The Project will be implemented as per the ADB guidelines.
Proposal for an amount of Rs. 59 Crores (out of the 83 Crores proposed on 02/2005) covering the coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram & Kasaragod had been resubmitted to the Govt. of Kerala on 24.01.2006, for inclusion under Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme (TRIP) of the Govt. of India.
